Comments: The title of this video is inspired by Lex's statement in 'Lexmas' that all he ever wanted was "to live happily ever after" - I loved this speech, because it shows that he has normal aspirations, probably the same dreams that he had when he was a young boy, but the events in his life have given him a warped view of what 'happily ever after' is to him.

Lex is a product of his own past, and his reaction to key events in his life spiral out, causing everything else to happen and ultimately making him Superman's legendary nemesis. Lex constantly suppresses his past as well as his emotions, so this video is designed to give us a glimpse of what goes on under the surface. It shows Lex from his own, untainted point of view. The pace of the video increases as it progresses... I wanted it to parallel Lex's descent into his own legend: as he becomes more evil, more twisted, the video becomes more erratic, angry and violent. This contrasts with the deceptively 'gentle' opening that portrays the young, innocent Lex.

The look of this video was very important to me: the footage is taken from all five seasons of Smallville so it was hard to get it all to look consistent. The images are very different to how they look in Smallville (the Ever After graphic is made up of screencaps of the video) as I've bleached them, taken out any warmth and all but the slightest trace of colour: the effect is how I imagine someone as cold-hearted as Lex would view the world.

Ever After is the first non-AU character video that I've done for Smallville. I've actually been working on this video for over 6 months, but initially started with a different song and got stuck after 2 minutes... When I heard this song, I knew it would be perfect, so I re-cut the whole video using it. I actually did the majority of the editing in 3 days, though admittedly rather obsessively. It was made over my Christmas break, and on New Years Eve, I stopped vidding at 11.45, went downstairs for a quick drink, and was back at my laptop by 00:15 to finish it off!

Slightly obsessed... probably... but I'm really proud of the result.
